Baca Wants to Warn You

share
BacaThe battle continues whether or not video games are what cause violent outbreaks in children. So now Congressman Joe Baca wants warnings on T-M games alongside the warnings of epileptic seizures. What will these warning state? (more after the jump)

"Warning: Excessive exposure to violent video games and other violent media has been linked to, aggressive behavior."

This isn't presented without any of the research that he has on hand. He says that "research continues" to work on his behalf in linking "playing games and increased aggression in young people." A study from the University of Indiana, and Pediatrics Journal say there is a "neurological link" between violent games and violent behavior. However there are also studies saying there is no such link.

The gun-ho Congressman, along with Republican Frank R. Wolf want to put this "Video game Health Labeling Act of 2009" on games that are rated T-M. Baca feels that it's the video game industry's duty to warn people of the possible dangers in video games by stating, "The video game industry has a responsibility to parents, families, and to consumers - to inform them of the potentially damaging content that is often found in their products."

My question is, how does he think this will work? I'm sure people have heard at least one "horror story" of how a kid goes on a rampage and then all of a sudden it's a video game's fault. With my experience working in the retail part if the gaming industry, even with these stories, when told about why a game is rated "M" for Mature I get shrugs most of the time, or my personal favorite response: "Well, he want's the game, what can I do about it?" So I doubt a warning lable of any kind will really turn the tables. Well, I give the guy credit for trying.
